University guide: University of Warwick

Our at-a-glance guide to the University of Warwick

The first fact you should know about Warwick is that it's not in Warwick. It actually lies about three miles outside the centre of Coventry and on the border of Warwickshire. Warwick itself does have its own castle, though, so you might like to go there for a day trip. Coventry has all the other mod cons you require, though the modern (well, modern in the 1960s) main campus is charming and very well equipped. Consistently rated among the best universities in the country, Warwick is something of a leader in the academic field, with innovative approaches to community involvement and widening participation.

Fees
£3,290 for full-time undergraduates in 2010-11.

Bursaries
The Warwick scholarship if £1,500 a year is available to all students with a family income of £36,000 or less who are in receipt of maintenance grant support.

Accommodation
Guaranteed for all first-years. There are about 6,000 on-campus rooms and a stock of off-campus rooms too. Self-catering halls range from about £70 to £115 a week.

Facilities
There's an impressive art collection on show at the arts centre, good sports facilities and a large library.

Transport
Close to the M1/M6 intersection and half an hour to Birmingham by train; an hour and a quarter to London.
