University guide: University of Worcester

Our at-a-glance guide to the University of Worcester

Worcester seems to be on the move. It enjoyed an applications increase of more than 35% this year and has seen applications increase by more than 100% in the past five years. It is currently investing more than £100m in the development of a new city-centre campus, which will open in September 2010, and a further £60m on a unique library and history centre, which will be the first joint university and public library in the UK. It is also developing a state-of-the-art new sports arena. There are currently more than 8,500 students at Worcester and the majority come from the West Midlands, but applications from further afield are increasing. Worcester itself is a charming city with plenty to see and do. There's some lovely countryside nearby too.

Fees
£3,290 for full-time undergraduates in 2010-11.

Bursaries
£500 for every new student, rising to £625 for students in receipt of a partial grant, and £750 for those on full grant. A number of scholarships of £1,000 are available after the first year of study to reward outstanding achievement. Other awards and support are also available.

Accommodation
All first-year undergraduates who accept a conditional or unconditional offer through Ucas by the end of April are guaranteed a place in university-owned/managed accommodation. Prices begin at £73 a week.

Facilities
The university has invested millions in new facilities, opening seven new buildings last year, including new science laboratories, teaching rooms and halls of residence. It is currently investing more than £100m in the development of a new city-centre site, which will open in September 2010, and a further £60m on a unique library and history centre, which will be the first joint university and public library in the UK. It is also developing a state-of-the-art sports arena to open in 2012.
