University guide: Thames Valley University

Our at-a-glance guide to Thames Valley University

Thames Valley University has successfully re-invented itself by improving facilities, providing high-quality teaching and producing flexible education for its students. Between January 2009 and January 2010, TVU saw the highest increase in applications of any higher education institution in the UK, and received the prestigious Queen's anniversary prize for further and higher education. Programmes of study include psychology, law, accounting and finance, music, photography and media, enterprise and entrepreneurship, and tourism, hospitality and leisure. TVU's lively student union runs social events all year and has a range of clubs including the basketball society, which has members that play professionally for the British team. There is a large, mixed student body, with lots of mature, part-time and ethnic minority students.

The main Ealing campus in west London is moments away from beautiful landscaped parks with restaurants, pubs and shopping on the doorstep and vibrant central London only a short tube ride away. TVU also has campuses in Brentford in west London and Reading.

Fees
£3,290 for full-time undergraduates in 2010-11.

Bursaries
If your household income is below £40,000, you may be eligible for a TVU bursary of £530 and £1,060. Other educational support linked to subject areas may be available.

Accommodation
The university has student accommodation at its west London campus which is 15 minutes by local bus services to Ealing. Expect to pay about £120 a week.

Facilities
Libraries at each campus are well stocked and updated regularly, with an ever-expanding selection of electronic resources. They have extended opening hours, some with 24-hour access.

Transport
There are shuttle buses between campuses, and excellent public transport links provide easy access into central London and Berkshire.
