University guide: University of Gloucestershire

Our at-a-glance guide to the University of Gloucestershire

Students are spread over four campuses: three in Cheltenham and one in Gloucester. Cheltenham, in particular, is attractive, and both it and Gloucester can support a decent social life and have good links to bigger cities, as well as some appealing rural surroundings. The university is proud of its green credentials and sustainable policies: it was ranked number one in the green people and planet league of universities 2008. Learning is flexible - there are large groups of mature and part-time students - and courses are innovative. There is emphasis on industry links and work placements, with an eye to preparing you for a future career.

Fees
£3,290 for full-time undergraduates in 2010-11.

Bursaries
Students qualifying for a full grant are eligible for a bursary of £384. A one-off payment of £500 is available to students who attain three A grades at A-level. Students from partner colleges are eligible for a payment of £1,200. Further scholarships and support are available.

Accommodation
There are halls on or near all campuses with space for 1,000 students. Most students (and some first-years) live in private accommodation. Rooms cost from £69 a week.

Facilities
All learning centres offer free internet and email access, and are open seven days a week during term-time. Wireless network facilities are available on all campuses. The university boasts an aerobic and resistance fitness suite with accompanying dance studio, competition-standard cricket facilities, laboratory facilities and an all-weather pitch.

Transport
Bus links are provided between campuses. Road and rail links are generally pretty good, depending on which campus you are on.
