University guide: University of East Anglia

Our at-a-glance guide to the University of East Anglia

The University of East Anglia campus is just a couple of miles from the centre of Norwich, though you might wonder why anyone would ever venture off campus: the 320 landscaped acres boast excellent sports facilities, bars and cafes, and the Sainsbury centre for visual arts, not to mention some striking 1960s architecture. No wonder, then, that the students are happy bunnies: in the 2009 national student satisfaction survey, the overall satisfaction rating was 90%. An excellent reputation and a wide mix of courses probably helps to impress. The university prides itself on being at the forefront of green awareness, and is meeting its energy needs met via the recently completed on-campus biomass generating plant.

Fees
£3,290 for the majority of full-time undergraduate courses in 2010-11. Fees for students studying physiotherapy, occupational therapy, speech and language therapy, and nursing and midwifery will continue to be covered by the NHS students grant unit. The first years of the science with a foundation year programme and the medical foundation year programme will cost £1,285.

Bursaries
£600 for students in receipt of the full grant and £300 for students in receipt of a partial grant. Scholarships (some based on academic excellence) of up to £4,000 are available.

Accommodation
Guaranteed for eligible first-years. All accommodation is self-catering and most is based on campus. There is a range to choose from and it costs from £50.40 to £105.15 a week.

Facilities
The award-winning library is open seven days a week and holds over 800,000 volumes. The Sportspark has recently completed a £3.9m extension. Current facilities include a 50m Olympic pool, an athletics track, an indoor arena, squash and tennis courts, a climbing wall, a fitness centre, dance studios, and 40 acres of playing fields and pitches. The union hosts top-name bands and regular club nights.

Transport
The campus is walkable to Norwich city centre, though there's a 24-hour bus service. It's a two-hour trip by road or rail to London. Norwich airport is nearby and Stansted 90 minutes away.
